bleeding for love

We were in the midst of another half argument, Gillian and I, so I wanted to diffuse the tension.

Isn't tension a horrible thing? It disallows you from getting close, from speaking the words of your heart, from comforting the ones you love.

I tried tickling, to no avail. Attempted flattery, jokes, and an offer of food with only a half hearted smile to greet my words. And then I pulled out my secret weapon. I offered trust.

If you know Gill, you know she's careless. My mom knows this through the 'dropping of wine bottle and shattering it' scene. Friends may know of it through her many attempts to help, and have something magically come apart on the way. I personally know it physically, through how many of her actions cause me to stumble, bump, and feel pain in my toes as she steps on them.

So it shouldn't come as a surprise that I usually refuse to allow her and an ear digger anywhere near me. It is not a stereotype. Back in the early days, before I learnt the dangers all Gill's left limbs posed, I let her jab into my ear, with much pain.

Ever since, she has looked hopefully at me, wishing for a chance to make up for that 'accident'.

Gill's wish came true today. Though not quite as one would have hoped.

As I offered up my left ear in trust and sincerity (secretly praying that I wouldn't go deaf), I felt her softly scrape against the sides, attempting to clean. It was surprisingly soft. Too soft in fact.

After three such scrapes:
"Haha da it's very soft actually"
"Huh really ah? I don't dare do any harder. I'm scared"
"Haha it's okay don't worry about it"
"Do you want me to do it harder?"
"A bit bit?"
"AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

I was weeping! The tears just poured out in gushes, involuntarily! Strange sounds of pain emitted from my throat, as I begged her to stop, begged her to check my ear, begged for the pain to stop. Gill was just as shocked, and she began crying as well, almost immediately.

(By the way, when caring for a hurt individual, do not cry. It is enough to need one bucket, two buckets is a crowd)

She stabbed my ear!

I've been bleeding profusely ever since. It has been about 3 hours, and my blood has been coming out in a steady stream ever since.

Well, at least my prayer came true. I didn't go deaf!
