Afterglow of an Anniversary

We sat blanketed by the pool, a single rose and candle lit.
The light of your glass brightened the night,
as we shared laughter over a fettuccine.

The gold chain shimmered, whiter than a dove and shell.
I swept your hair past your necks embrace,
to dangle that blue heart above your chest.

Shining flames fell upon, that cutting bronze of time.
My keepsake from you as a string on my finger,
I mirthfully refused to return it to you.

You exclaimed when your eyes flit across, the cobalt frame.
Quattro moments holding our smiles,
A symbol to something that is meant to last.

As the wick lowered, it sank to the watery depth of the wax.
Then just as we kissed when your tears danced,
Our lips did touch for one last first time.
